Day #30: #anyotherdayforaustraliaday

January 26 is Australia Day. The anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the British First Fleet, and a day that kicked off a multi-century struggle for Australia’s indigenous people.

It has become a contentious date on the Australian calendar, and many people just aren’t sure how to feel about it. Heck, even Triple J’s hottest 100 felt the ick and moved to January 27.

There are so many things worth celebrating in Australia’s history. Surely we can find a reason to celebrate on another day? Any day! So we made a GPT that identifies moments in Australian history worth celebrating for every other day of the year. Anything is better than January 26, right?

Kudos to Adam Ferrier for inspiring this idea and for his persistence in keeping the conversation top-of-feed.

We should all be able celebrate this kick ass country on a day we all feel good about. And by “all”, we mean all.
