Here’s one for all those parents of youngsters holding on for dear life as the holiday period comes to an end, and consistent childcare looms on the horizon.
Give the kids something to color in that isn’t Elsa or Paw Patrol for once. We made a generator that spits out printable coloring pages featuring cartoon caricatures of celebrities or characters of your choosing.
First we’ll share a few examples, and then we’ll talk about the tech. You can figure out who’s who…

How we built it
It’s often a pain stringing multiple APIs together, and this one was no exception. Not because it was a super complicated build, but because we’re still learning and we don’t know what we don’t know.
When the user enters a celebrity name, ChatGPT 4o-mini takes the input and crafts an image prompt describing the person, the scene, and the coloring page art style. The prompt is then fed to the Replicate API to generate an image.
You might notice that if you try to generate an image of somebody particularly offensive you’ll receive an error message. Before that error message existed, it was this woman that would pop up on the screen….

We were confused too… It wasn’t until we read the logs that we realized ChatGPT was receiving the offensive input and responding with “I’m sorry, I can’t help you with that request”. This text was then fed directly into the image generator and would produce a disenchanted woman sitting at a desk. It was both alarming and hilarious, though we figured it would be best to introduce an error message.
