Try this GPT (Requires GPT+ subscription)

Today’s GPT is designed to equip adults to discuss the news with their kids, by turning the headlines into a children’s book.

Disclaimer: It does pretty a good job of censoring pretty dark news stories, but please use common sense when sharing with kids!

The spirit of this experiment was to take something very real-time (like news), and to collide that with something that is very stagnant (like a children’s book).

To pull in the news we initially tried using GPT’s web search function, but the results were inconsistent and it occasionally invented fake headlines. We’re not in the business of making fake news! If you want to use an AI tool for news, stick to Bard for the time being. So this forced us to brush up on our API integration skills and pull in a news API. Not a particularly complex task, but it turns out its an art to teach GPT how to troubleshoot itself.

We then had GPT translate the news story into a children’s fable, which it nailed. Well done Chat GPT! 5 stars. Would recommend.

Finally, we tackled the DALL-E integration to produce the book’s illustrations. It turns out it’s a tricky challenge to get GPT to initiate DALL-E every time, and to pair that with a specific piece of text. Chat GPT LOOOOVES to provide unnecessary commentary about everything it’s doing, so we spend a lot of brain power trying to get it to just shut the fuck up. We did our best.
